Calendar of annual events and festivals in or near Clovelly
Clovelly hosts a vibrant calendar of annual festivals celebrating its maritime heritage and local produce throughout the year. The picturesque fishing village attracts visitors to events ranging from seafood celebrations to traditional agricultural shows.
Spring Events
Yellow Welly Cobble Wobble takes place on May 4th as the first major event of the season. The Seaweed Festival follows on May 25th, celebrating seaweed's flavors, colors, and health benefits with dishes and stalls along the Quay offering seaweed products.
Summer Festivals
Clovelly Maritime Festival occurs on July 20th, featuring workshops, face painting, maritime-themed stalls, and entertainment. Children under 16 receive free entry when dressed in maritime fancy dress. The nearby Woolsery Agricultural Show takes place on July 28th.
Gig Regatta on August 2nd showcases competitive rowing teams from Devon and Cornwall. Lifeboat Day follows on August 3rd, celebrating the RNLI. The Lobster & Crab Festival on August 31st marks its 25th anniversary in 2025, benefiting the National Lobster Hatchery with live music, lobster and crab dishes, craft stalls, and children's activities.
Autumn Festival
Herring Festival takes place on November 16th, celebrating Clovelly's herring fishing heritage with the "Silver Darlings". The festival features Mike Smylie's "Kipperland" exhibition, fresh kippers and bloaters from his smokehouse, Flaxland demonstrations including net-making competitions, herring dishes, live music, craft stalls, and exhibitions of traditional herring fishing.
Winter Celebrations
RNLI Christmas Lights illuminate the village on November 30th. Boxing Day Barbecue on December 26th and New Year's Evecelebrations on December 31st conclude the annual calendar. Clovelly Court Gardens Christmas Illuminations also feature during December.
